Kumbh Mela and its Brief Significance

Kumbh Mela which started on 14 January 2019 to 5 March 2019, is Prayag Kumbh Mela. Prayag Kumbh Mela is ardh mela which means half. Kumbh Mela is a huge massive Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather, to bathe in sacred or holy rivers such as Ganges, Yamuna, Sarasvati, Godavari. Kumbh Mela is of four types: the Prayag Kumbh Mela, the Haridwar Kumbh Mela, the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha, and the Ujjain Simhastha. With the period of time, this Mela occurs following places by rotation and all these fairs are located on the banks of the holy river.

This year devotees will celebrate Ardh Kumbh Mela. Kumbh fair is celebrated on every 12th year based on astrology, Vikram Samvat calendar and according to the combination of zodiac position of Jupiter, the Sun and the Moon.

Bathing in these rivers signifies to cleanse a person of all their sins. The exact date and time of the fair are uncertain. According to medieval Hinduism, Lord Vishnu dropped drops of Amrita at four different places while transporting the Kumbh i.e. pot. and those four places are recognized as the present sites of Kumbh fair. This festival is one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world, considering religious aspects.

Prayag Kumbh Mela 2019 is set up for 5cr plus devotees which is organized by Uttar Pradesh government providing different modern facilities for devotees. 200 of special trains are provided with 5 different special trains from Delhi. Train tickets will be cheap. Boats are also provided by Inland Waterways Authority of India in huge number which travels up to 20 km carrying 16 people.

In the huge mass, the possibility of missing someone also happens. For this U.P police has provided mobile application and devotee could file FIR instantly in the website.
Medical treatments facilities have also been provided because a big population can create disease or pollution to the environment.
Beautiful Indian culture paintings are also drawn by the artist over all areas and many different cultural programs are also being organized.
In 2017 UNESCO inscribed Kumbh fair as the "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" which reflects the meaning of significant to worldwide.
